Harvest Haliburton's Goals for 2019

1. To increase the number of supportive local food policies and advocate for supportive regulations

2. To work in partnership with other organizations and agencies to support initiatives that will increase local food production

3. To increase community awareness about the work of Harvest Haliburton and the importance of creating a sustainable food system*

Policy and Regulation:  Harvest Haliburton will continue to do research and advocate for public policy improvements at the local government level.  We aim to support community food security, address barriers to local food production, and support new and established producers.

Food Production: Harvest Haliburton aims to compile and disseminate the information and strategic tools necessary for successful food production in our community. This will be done in partnership with other local, provincial, and nationwide organizations doing related work.

Communication:  Harvest Haliburton endeavours to inform local government and the community of our work and accomplishments.  Through presentations, social media, radio and print media, we seek to convey our mandate and share our research.

*Sustainable Food System “means that food… must be harvested, produced, processed, distributed and consumed in a manner which maintains and enhances the quality of land, air & water for future generations and in which people are able to earn a living wage in a safe and healthy working environment by harvesting, growing, producing, processing, handling, retailing and serving food” (Food Secure Canada 2006, Public Health Association BC 2012)
